Political analyst Matt Towery delivered a warning on Friday, asserting that the Republican Party is at risk of losing crucial ground to a rapidly reshaping, left-leaning Democratic Party, fueled by weak GOP voter turnout in recent elections.
Appearing on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle,” Towery highlighted a “dangerous trend” visible in outcomes like the two statewide losses the GOP recently suffered in Georgia.
“That’s really dangerous for this country. It’s also dangerous for Republicans. Republicans have to figure out how to get their vote back out because they certainly didn’t do it on Tuesday,” Towery told host Laura Ingraham. “We even lost two statewide elected races in Georgia to the Democrats. That’s something Republicans need to hear.”
The Rise of the Progressive Wing
Towery pointed to the emergence of leaders like Democratic New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani as a signal of this deeper shift within the Democratic party. Mamdani, who is described as the leader of the party’s progressive wing, built his campaign on platforms emphasizing wealth redistribution, expansive government programs, and class-based politics.
According to the analyst, this progressive momentum is quickly reshaping the party’s identity, pushing aside establishment figures.
“And it hadn’t gotten a lot of attention. So there’s something going on here, and I don’t think that they’re going to prevail in the end, but the Republicans had better get control of this and figure out how they’re going to deal with this new Democratic Party that’s emerging,” Towery cautioned.
Ultra-Liberal Entrenchment
Towery elaborated that the rise of this new generation of “ultra-left leaders” is actively “shoving the Schumers and the Clintons and others from the past aside.”
- Entrenched Positions: “This party is now becoming much more entrenched in enforcing ultra-liberal positions,” Towery stated.
- Emboldened Left: He connected this internal shift to legislative maneuvers, noting that Democrats “feel emboldened. And they also feel like they have to keep this going because they have to keep this left, ultra-left, almost socialist wing of the party happy.”
While Ingraham questioned whether the Mamdani style of candidate could resonate outside of traditional Democratic strongholds, Towery suggested its appeal would likely be limited, adding, “We all know that plenty of areas around the country where that simply isn’t going to work.”
However, he doubled down on the urgent need for Republicans to address their voter mobilization issues before the new Democratic momentum further consolidates its influence.
