Food manufacturer Kettle Cuisine LLC is recalling more than 3,000 packages of Marketside Tomato Bisque Soup Kits sold exclusively at Walmart stores across 29 states due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination, federal health officials announced.
The voluntary recall involves 3,240 packs of the 14-ounce (397g) soup kits packaged in wrapped trays. Affected items carry UPC 194346474004 and have a printed use-by date of 8/22/26. The Maryland-based company shipped the affected inventory to select Walmart locations between June 30, 2026, and July 7, 2026.
According to an announcement published by the Food and Drug Administration, the action follows routine internal testing by the company that returned a presumptive positive result for the bacteria. No illnesses tied to the product have been confirmed to date, and the firm stated it is continuing an investigation alongside the FDA.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe and potentially fatal infections in young children, elderly individuals, and people with compromised immune systems. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant individuals. In healthy adults, exposure may lead to short-term symptoms including high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
State distribution includes Walmart locations in Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.
Consumers who purchased the recalled kits should not eat, serve, sell, or distribute them. Health officials advise buyers to throw the product away or bring it back to the store for a full refund, noting that contaminated food may not look or smell spoiled. Anyone handling the packages should thoroughly wash their hands and sanitize any refrigerator shelves, counters, or utensils that came into contact with the item.
Individuals who consumed the soup and experience symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, or gastrointestinal issues should seek medical care.
