HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County Commissioners have issued a call for civic-minded residents to step up and serve their community, announcing multiple vacancies across a wide range of citizen advisory boards and committees.

From overseeing historic preservation to advising on tourist development, these volunteer positions offer locals a direct hand in shaping county policy and maintaining community standards. Officials confirmed that applications are now open, but the window to apply is tight—submissions are due by the close of business on January 30, 2026.

The county is looking to fill seats on several high-impact boards, including the County Internal Audit Committee, the Human Relations Board, and the Tourist Development Council. Specialized roles are also available for professionals in construction and real estate, with openings on the Building Board of Adjustment, Code Enforcement Special Magistrate, and the Land Use Appeals Board, among others.

“These are voluntary positions and members serve without compensation,” the announcement noted, emphasizing that service on these boards is a way to give back to the community.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, applicants must be registered voters residing in Hillsborough County. While residents can apply for multiple boards, they are generally limited to serving on one at a time. Some positions, particularly those involving financial oversight or code enforcement, require an annual financial disclosure or a background check.

How to Join

The county has streamlined the process with an online application portal. Residents must submit a completed Questionnaire for County Appointments and a Standards of Conduct form.

  • Deadline: Friday, Jan. 30, 2026
  • Where to Apply: The Boards, Committees, and Councils webpage at hcfl.gov
  • Submission Options: Forms can be completed online, emailed to boardservices@hcfl.gov, or mailed/delivered to the County Center on Kennedy Blvd.
