CLEARWATER, Fla. – A quick-thinking group of Good Samaritans sprang into action this afternoon on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, rescuing a man trapped inside a burning vehicle before Clearwater Fire & Rescue and Police could arrive.
The dramatic scene unfolded at 2:34 p.m. in the 1700 block of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, where a black Porsche was engulfed in flames in the right eastbound lane.
According to reports, two citizens risked their own safety to pull the 74-year-old Clearwater man from the rapidly burning car. Meanwhile, other passersby grabbed fire extinguishers and attempted to contain the blaze until professional help arrived.

Clearwater firefighters quickly extinguished the remaining flames upon their arrival. The man was treated on the scene by fire personnel and transported to Morton Plant Hospital as a precaution.
Clearwater Fire & Rescue and Clearwater Police officials praised the actions of the citizens, whose immediate and courageous response likely prevented a far worse outcome. The cause of the car fire is currently under investigation.
