Authorities Identify Suspect as Tyler Robinson, Reveal Inscriptions on Bullets, and Describe Coordinated Investigation
In a press conference Friday morning, Utah officials and federal law enforcement provided a comprehensive update on the assassination of Charlie Kirk, confirming the arrest of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson and revealing chilling details of the crime.
Governor Spencer Cox, FBI Director Kash Patel, and other top officials painted a picture of a meticulously planned attack and a swift, coordinated investigation that led to Robinson’s arrest within 33 hours.
Confession and Family Tips Led to Arrest
Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Bill Mason detailed the critical tip that broke the case wide open. On the evening of September 11, a family member of Robinson’s contacted a family friend, who then notified the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
This tipster shared that Robinson had either confessed to or implied he was responsible for the shooting. This information was immediately relayed to federal and local investigators.

The family member also revealed that Robinson had become more political in recent years. During a recent dinner conversation, Robinson had expressed his dislike for Charlie Kirk, claiming Kirk was “full of hate and spreading hate.”
Evidence and Inscriptions on Bullets
Investigators recovered a Mauser Model 98 .30-06 caliber bolt-action rifle wrapped in a dark towel, which they believe is the murder weapon. The rifle had a scope mounted on top of it.
In a shocking revelation, Commissioner Mason read aloud inscriptions found on the bullet casings:
- One fired casing was inscribed with “no tices bulges,” followed by “O W O” and a question mark.
- Three unfired casings were also found. One read, “Hey fascist! catch!” with a downward arrow symbol.
- A second unfired casing read, “Bella ciao, Bella ciao, Bella ciao ciao ciao,” a reference to an Italian anti-fascist resistance song.
- A third unfired casing was inscribed with “If you read this, you are gay l-m-a-o.”
The motive for the act was “purely political,” according to the governor.

A Coordinated Investigation and Public Support
FBI Director Kash Patel praised the unprecedented cooperation between federal, state, and local law enforcement. “This is what happens when you let good cops be cops,” Patel said. He highlighted the rapid timeline of events: FBI agents arrived on the scene within 16 minutes of the shooting, and the first images of the suspect were released on September 11.
The FBI’s decision to release never-before-seen video of the suspect last night, along with the family member’s tip, directly led to Robinson being taken into custody at 10 p.m. local time, just hours after the footage was made public.

Governor Cox thanked the public for their overwhelming support, which has resulted in over 11,000 leads being submitted to the FBI. He also specifically thanked Robinson’s family for doing “the right thing” by coming forward.
In a powerful and emotional statement, Governor Cox described the assassination as an “attack on the American experiment” and an “attack on our ideals.” He called on Americans to choose hope over anger and to reject political violence. “Violence is violent,” he said, “and there is one person responsible for what happened here, and that person is now in custody.”
Robinson has been booked. Officials anticipate that formal charges will be filed early next week.
