SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A 73-year-old Webster man died Monday night following a multi-vehicle collision on State Road 48 involving a towing mishap. According to Florida Highway Patrol records, the incident occurred at approximately 7:40 PM just west of West Street.
Investigators say the Webster man was driving a Chevy Silverado eastbound, towing a Toyota RAV4 with a tow strap. When the strap disconnected, the RAV4 came to a stop in the roadway. The driver of the Silverado circled back and climbed underneath the RAV4 to reconnect the equipment.
While he was under the SUV, an Audi A5 traveling eastbound failed to stop and struck the rear of the RAV4.
The impact forced the RAV4 forward and over the man before the SUV finally collided with the back of the Silverado. The Webster man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol has not released further details as the investigation into the crash remains active.
