HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – A 58-year-old Weeki Wachee man died Tuesday afternoon following a three-vehicle collision along State Road 50, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash took place around 2:15 p.m. just east of Deltona Boulevard. Troopers reported that a 17-year-old Spring Hill girl was driving a Lexus SUV eastbound in the center lane, traveling beside an eastbound Dodge pickup driven by an 89-year-old Brooksville man in the inside lane.
According to investigators, the teenager attempted to make a lane change and collided with the pickup truck. The impact caused the Lexus to rotate out of control and cross into the westbound lanes of SR-50.
Once in the westbound lanes, the Lexus collided nearly head-on with a westbound GMC SUV and overturned.
Emergency crews transported the 58-year-old driver of the GMC SUV to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Two passengers in the GMC—a 15-year-old boy from Weeki Wachee and a 16-year-old boy from Spring Hill—were also taken to an area hospital for medical care.
The 17-year-old driver of the Lexus was transported to a hospital with injuries. The 89-year-old pickup driver was unhurt in the crash.
