TAMPA, Fla. – The scoreboard read 52-3, a dominant ending to a 9-3 regular season for South Florida against Rice. But as the clock hit zero on Saturday, the focus wasn’t on the rout—it was on whether Alex Golesh had just coached his final game for the Bulls.

Amid swirling reports linking him to high-profile openings at Arkansas, Auburn, and potentially Ole Miss, the 41-year-old head coach insists he hasn’t made up his mind. He just needs a moment to breathe.

BREAKING UPDATE: Alex Golesh Leaves USF For Auburn

“I’m going to enjoy this tonight with my family,” Golesh said regarding his timeline on the USF postgame radio show. “We’ll figure it out.”

The rumor mill has been churning aggressively. Reports from BullsInsider.com suggest Golesh is weighing a lucrative $35 million, five-year offer from the Razorbacks. This comes on the heels of a premature report from an Arkansas radio host claiming Golesh had already taken the job—a claim the coach flatly denied.

“It was nothing that I put out there,” Golesh said regarding the rumors of an accepted offer. “It wasn’t true.”

Addressing the media later, Golesh emphasized that his “process-driven” nature prevents him from juggling game prep and career moves at the same time. He admitted to apologizing to his players on Wednesday, when the noise about Arkansas first grew loud, asking for their patience.

“I told them on Wednesday, ‘Man, just give me some time to process everything that’s going on because I’ve not had time,'” he recounted. “I’ve not had time with my family, I’ve not had time with my wife to process everything that’s going on.”

The stakes are high, not just for Golesh, but for the chaotic coaching carousel spinning across the SEC. According to Yahoo Sports, Golesh is in the mix at Auburn and could become a target for Ole Miss if Lane Kiffin departs for LSU. If Golesh stays put or lands elsewhere, Arkansas is expected to pivot back to candidates like Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield or Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack.

Leaving USF wouldn’t be a minor decision. Golesh has orchestrated a massive turnaround in Tampa, boasting a 23-15 record over three seasons—a stark contrast to the program’s dismal 4-29 run prior to his arrival. With the Bulls now tying for fourth in the American Athletic Conference and a new on-campus stadium set to open in 2027, the program is on a clear upward trajectory.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, a final decision is expected by Sunday. For now, Golesh insists his loyalty dictates a careful evaluation, not a rushed exit.

“I owe it to the entire university to process it the right way, to think about everybody involved,” Golesh said. “I think if it was going to be just about me, I would have already processed it and thought about it. I have not… The first people that will know will be our players.”
