WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. – Parents in Wesley Chapel had a tense morning on Thursday after two local schools were forced into a controlled campus status due to reports of suspicious activity nearby. The security measure, which affected both Wesley Chapel High School and Wesley Chapel Elementary School, was lifted shortly after noon once law enforcement determined there was no actual danger.

The situation began when the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office received tips regarding unidentified individuals loitering in the vicinity of the campuses.

Out of an abundance of caution, school administrators immediately transitioned to a “controlled campus” protocol. Under these rules, students and staff stay inside locked buildings, and outside visitors are restricted, though classroom instruction typically continues behind closed doors.

Deputies spent the morning scouring the neighborhood and interviewing potential witnesses to track down the source of the concern. However, following an extensive sweep of the area, officials confirmed that the reports were unfounded. Investigators found no evidence of any intruders or malicious intent.

By early afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office issued a formal update stating that no credible threat to the students or faculty existed. Both the high school and the elementary school have since returned to their regular schedules, including standard dismissal procedures.
