West Virginia Man Arrested In Florida Child Sex Crimes Case

A West Virginia man was tracked down by detectives for the sexual abuse of two children while he was in the state of Florida.

Detectives with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) traveled to West Virginia to track down a man wanted for sex crimes against two underage children while they were in his care in Flagler County.

Two additional felony charges were filed on Monday, August 22, 2022, against 21-year-old Donald Andrew Sharp by FCSO’s Major Case Unit (MCU). Sharp was initially arrested by the Huntington (WV) Police Department on August 13, 2022, on a felony warrant MCU detectives obtained with nationwide extradition authority.

While in West Virginia, detectives interviewed Sharp regarding several cases where he was a suspect.

MCU detectives believe Sharp performed sex acts on the younger of the two victims multiple times over the course of a year at the victim’s Palm Coast home while babysitting that child. It appears Sharp also forced that female child and an older male child to perform sex acts on each other while he watched.

Sharp is now facing three felony charges, including sexual battery on a victim under 12 years of age. That charge was the basis for the first arrest warrant. The two additional charges filed on Monday by FCSO are principal to sexual battery on a victim under 12 years of age and principal to lewd & lascivious molestation on a victim under 12 years of age.

“This pervert took advantage of two children who are young enough to be in elementary school,” said Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly. “He took away their childhood innocence and now he’s learning how the long arm of the law really works. Our thanks to the Huntington Police Department for working alongside our Major Case Unit detectives to arrest him as a fugitive from justice so that he can be extradited back to Flagler County to answer for his horrendous crimes.”

More charges may be filed in the future as this active and ongoing investigation continues.

Sharp is currently held without bond at a West Virginia jail and will remain there until he is extradited.

Investigators say that Sharp has no prior criminal record in Flagler County.
