Authorities are investigating a third assassination attempt on President Donald J. Trump in less than two years, following the incident this past weekend at the White House Correspondents Dinner.
The White House issued a blistering statement on the matter Tuesday, attributing the security breach to the political climate and specific language used by high-ranking Democratic officials.
According to Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the suspect’s manifesto contained rhetoric that was “indistinguishable from the words we hear daily” from the Democratic Party.
The administration argues that the repeated use of labels like “fascist,” “Nazi,” and “dictator” has created a toxic environment that encourages unstable individuals to take violent action.
The White House released detailed information on several specific instances of aggressive language from Democratic leaders.
These include House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries stating that Democrats are in an “era of maximum warfare, everywhere, all the time,” and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer calling for supporters to be “forcefully rising up” against the President. Other cited examples included Governor Gavin Newsom’s urge to “punch these sons of bi**hes in the mouth” and Governor Josh Shapiro’s comment that “heads do need to roll” within the administration.
The list also highlighted Governor JB Pritzker’s call for “disruption” and Governor Tim Walz’s claim that his state is “at war with our federal government.”
Legislators were also named in the report. Rep. Dan Goldman and Sen. Elizabeth Warren were quoted describing the administration as a “fascist” regime or state, while Rep. John Larson compared federal activities to the “SS” and the “Gestapo.”
Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman was also cited for her call to “eliminate the President of the United States from the office right now.”
The White House concluded the announcement by calling for an end to the escalation. Despite the severity of the allegations, the statement ended with a quote from President Trump himself, urging that Americans must “recommit with their hearts in resolving our differences peacefully.”
The investigation into the suspect and the circumstances of the attempt remains ongoing.
