President Donald Trump confirmed on Monday that the White House will serve as the backdrop for a historic mixed martial arts event scheduled for June 14.
Addressing reporters, the President detailed plans for a temporary 4,500-seat arena to be constructed directly at the front door of the White House.
The event, which coincides with the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebrations, is drawing unprecedented attention.
While the UFC typically numbers its events consecutively, the President reacted favorably to a reporter’s suggestion to name this specific card “UFC 1776,” calling it a “good idea” and stating he would pass the suggestion along to UFC President Dana White.

Logistics for the fight appear to extend far beyond the small arena on the immediate grounds. Trump noted that additional stages and “massive screens” will be erected at the Ellipse to accommodate a crowd that could range from 50,000 to 100,000 people. These spectators will be able to watch a live broadcast of the fights happening just steps away.
The President described the upcoming event as having more interest than any other he has been involved with, citing both the popularity of the sport and the unique location.
“I have never had an event that’s had more interest than the UFC fight that we have right at the front,” Trump said. “Because of the White House and everything, there’s a lot of reasons for it.”
Construction for the “tremendous stages” and the arena is expected to begin soon to prepare for the June date. The President concluded his remarks by extending a casual invitation to a member of the press corps, emphasizing the broad appeal he anticipates for the fight.
