White House Undercuts ‘Epstein Knew, Trump Knew’ Emails, Citing Victim’s Past Defense Of President

The release of three emails from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate by House Oversight Democrats on Wednesday, which hinted at President Donald Trump’s knowledge of the sex trafficker’s crimes, was immediately and aggressively challenged by the White House, which undercut the narrative by revealing the identity and prior statements of an alleged victim referenced in the correspondence.

The White House argued that the Democrats’ release was a “disingenuous” and “selective” leak intended to “create a fake narrative to smear President Trump.”

The emails in question include:

  • 2019 Communication to Michael Wolff: Epstein appears to admit to journalist Michael Wolff that Trump was aware of the criminal conduct, stating: “of course he knew about the girls as he asked [G]hislaine to stop.”
  • April 2, 2011, Email to Ghislaine Maxwell: Epstein described Trump as “that dog that hasn’t barked,” adding that an unnamed victim “spent hours at my house with him [and] he has never once been mentioned” by police or others.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt countered that the “unnamed victim” referenced in the 2011 email is the late Virginia Giuffre, who, according to Leavitt, “repeatedly said President Trump was not involved in any wrongdoing whatsoever and ‘couldn’t have been friendlier’ to her in their limited interactions.”

Giuffre, who worked as a spa attendant at Mar-a-Lago, wrote in her posthumous memoir, “Nobody’s Girl,” that Trump “couldn’t have been friendlier,” and even helped her find babysitting work for wealthy families.

Interpreting the ‘Stop’ Request

The email where Epstein suggests Trump “knew about the girls as he asked [G]hislaine to stop” is also being re-framed by the White House’s response:

  • The White House stated that Trump “kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his club decades ago for being a creep to his female employees, including Giuffre.”
  • Trump himself has previously explained that he forced Epstein out of Mar-a-Lago after he caught Epstein “taking people that work for me” from the spa, and explicitly told him: “Listen, we don’t want you taking our people.”

Political Reactions and Call for Full Files

In response to the Democrats’ redactions, Oversight Committee Republicans questioned why the name of the victim was covered up when the Epstein Estate had not redacted it, stating: “Democrats are trying to create a fake narrative to slander President Trump. Shame on them.”

Meanwhile, the email exchange from 2015 between Epstein and Wolff, where the author advised Epstein to “let him hang himself” regarding media questions about Trump, highlights the media figure’s role in the controversy.

The debate over the emails coincides with a bipartisan push to force a House vote on releasing the Justice Department’s full Epstein files. The petition to compel the release is expected to receive the required signatures this week.
