‘Whoa, What A Loser’: Biden Unloads On Trump’s White House Renovation Projects, Policy

Former President Joe Biden delivered a sharp critique of President Donald Trump over the weekend, targeting his successor’s vanity, foreign policy decisions, and alleged financial corruption. Speaking at a Maryland Democratic Party gala, Biden rallied party members and voiced strong opposition to the current administration’s domestic and international choices during Trump’s first year back in office.

During his remarks, Biden focused heavily on Trump’s physical renovations around Washington, D.C., characterizing them as self-serving.

“It’s not just his vanity projects: tearing down the East Wing of the White House, making room for his ballroom, putting his name on a Kennedy Center, building an arch in his own honor, or even hiring his own pool guy to fix the reflecting pool,” Biden told the crowd. “Whoa. What a loser.”

Biden argued that these physical modifications point to a deeper systemic issue within the current administration, accusing Trump of unprecedented financial misconduct.

“The reflecting pool reflects something even worse than the narcissism and incompetence at the core of this administration. It’s the corruption. The corruption. The brazen and blatant corruption. Corruption on a scale never seen before in American history in any administration,” Biden asserted. He claimed that Trump has generated billions of dollars since returning to the presidency, adding that “making money off the presidency is one of the reasons he wants to be president.”

The former president also criticized Trump’s approach to international relations, specifically pointing toward a shift in long-standing global partnerships. Biden accused Trump of a “deliberate distortion and destruction of NATO” and stated that the current president is “choosing Putin over America’s allies.” According to Biden, these decisions have diminished the country’s global standing more than any other administration in history.

Turning his focus to domestic affairs, Biden expressed intense frustration regarding Trump’s stance on individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riot. He stated that Trump intends to allocate taxpayer money to compensate those who participated in the events.

“People who stormed the Capitol, attacked the police, and tried to execute his own vice president. My God. These people don’t deserve to be compensated. They deserve to be put in jail for a long, long, long time,” Biden said.

As he concluded his address to the audience, which included many young voters and Maryland’s governor, Biden transitioned to a message of resilience and mobilization for the Democratic Party. Drawing on personal advice from his father and a lesson from the governor’s grandparents to “have faith, not fear,” Biden urged attendees to stay engaged in the political process.

Pointing to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding, he called on Democrats to look toward a future focused on fairness, equality, and respect, ending with a call to get up and continue the fight.
