TAMPA, Fla. – Strong winds fueled a fast-moving fire Wednesday afternoon in the Palm River neighborhood, forcing Hillsborough County firefighters to battle a blaze that jumped from one home to another.

The incident began shortly before noon when emergency dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting smoke and flames on Tidewater Trail. The first crews arrived at 11:44 a.m. to find a single-story home already fully engulfed.

Conditions at the scene deteriorated rapidly as gusting winds pushed the fire and intense radiant heat toward a neighboring property, setting it alight. Recognizing the immediate threat of a wider spread, incident commanders struck a second alarm to bring additional manpower and equipment to the scene.

Firefighters were forced to make a tactical pivot, initially concentrating their efforts on the second home to halt the fire’s advance. Once the exposure fire was contained, crews shifted their full attention back to the primary residence. It took approximately 45 minutes to bring the situation under control.

Search teams combed through both structures and confirmed that no residents were trapped inside. While no first responders were injured during the operation, paramedics transported one person to a local hospital in stable condition.

The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Fire Investigations Unit is currently on the scene, working to pinpoint the cause of the blaze.
