TAMPA, Fla. – A massive fire tore through a North Tampa mobile home park Tuesday afternoon, destroying or damaging at least four homes as wind and dry conditions helped the flames jump between structures.
Tampa Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to the 10100 block of N. Florida Ave. at 12:35 p.m. When the first engines arrived on the scene, they found a single mobile home completely engulfed in heavy smoke and flames. The fire was so intense that commanders immediately called for a second alarm, bringing in more manpower to battle the blaze and protect the surrounding neighborhood.
“The intensity of the fire, the multiple exposures, and dry weather and wind conditions” prompted the need for additional resources, fire officials said.

As the fire jumped from the initial unit to nearby homes, the battle became a race against the elements. It took firefighters roughly 50 minutes to bring the situation under control.
Crews conducted primary and secondary searches of the affected buildings and confirmed that no residents were inside at the time. While no human injuries were reported, firefighters did successfully rescue one dog from one of the residences.
The emergency response forced a total shutdown of E. Bougainvillea Ave. in both directions, as hoses were stretched across the roadway to supply water to the scene.
Investigators from the Tampa Fire Marshal’s Office are currently on-site working to determine exactly what sparked the blaze. No official cause has been released.
