Hundreds of thousands of households across Ukraine’s capital are in the dark today following one of the most significant aerial assaults in recent months.

Russian forces launched a sweeping overnight attack Tuesday that hammered eight different regions, leaving critical infrastructure in ruins just as winter temperatures plummeted.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the scale of the bombardment, stating that more than 300 drones—along with a mix of ballistic and cruise missiles—were deployed in the strikes.

The barrage targeted energy facilities specifically, a tactic that has become a grim routine since the invasion began in 2022. By crippling power grids, the strikes aim to cut off heating and light as the country faces deep-freezing conditions.

The attack comes alongside a sobering new report from the United Nations released this week. The data reveals that in 2025 alone, Russian strikes killed over 2,500 Ukrainian civilians.

Many of these victims were nowhere near active combat zones, underscoring the reach and lethality of the ongoing aerial campaign against residential and infrastructure targets.
