POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 48-year-old man from Winter Haven is facing multiple charges following a Tuesday night arrest involving an unlit golf cart.
Polk County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over Juan Gonzalez-Reyes around 10:45 p.m. in the town of Wahneta after noticing he was operating the golf cart on a roadway without lights.
During the stop, Gonzalez-Reyes gave officers the name “Alberto” along with a fake birth date. Deputies reported that he had slurred speech, watery eyes, and a strong smell of alcohol.
They also found an open can of Modelo beer sitting beside him in the vehicle.
After being taken to the Sheriff’s Processing Center, Gonzalez-Reyes provided two breath samples. The tests registered blood-alcohol levels of 0.243 and 0.239—roughly triple Florida’s legal driving limit of 0.08.
Law enforcement charged Gonzalez-Reyes with driving under the influence and giving a false identity to an officer.
