Convicted Felon Apprehended with MDMA, Fentanyl, and a Handgun Following Car Theft
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A Winter Haven man with a history of felony convictions is facing multiple life felony charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle and being found in possession of trafficking amounts of MDMA and Fentanyl, along with a firearm.
Kelvin Smith, 29, of 2025 Andolini Lane, Winter Haven, was arrested on June 21, 2025, following a report of a stolen vehicle. According to the victim, he was with a female friend around 8 p.m. when she asked him to pick up Smith, whom she referred to as “Junior.”
After picking Smith up, the victim, unsure of the route to Smith’s residence, allowed Smith to take the driver’s seat.

Upon arriving at the residence, Smith reportedly told the victim and his friend “not to leave him.” He then allegedly removed the keys from the ignition to prevent them from leaving and lifted his shirt to reveal a firearm in his waistband before entering the residence.
Fearing for their safety and the recovery of the keys, the victim and his friend fled the scene and contacted law enforcement. By the time officers arrived, Smith had already fled in the stolen vehicle.
Through investigative means, officers and deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office successfully located the vehicle and apprehended Smith. Upon his detention, a baggie containing MDMA was discovered in Smith’s front pocket.
