HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A 29-year-old Winter Haven man lost his life early Sunday morning in a violent collision on State Road 60 involving a speeding sedan and a semi-truck hauling hazardous materials.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:10 a.m. east of Clarence Gordon Jr. Road. According to troopers, the man was driving a Honda Accord eastbound on SR-60 at a high rate of speed.

Just ahead of him, a Freightliner Cascadia tanker truck had come to a complete stop at a railroad crossing. The truck, driven by a 62-year-old man from Lithia, was transporting a load of molten sulfur and was required by law to stop at the tracks before proceeding.
