WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Winter Haven Police Department is once again helping citizens safeguard their identities and homes by bringing back its highly popular, free event, “Purge Your Pills & Shred Your Stuff.”

The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2025, running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Winter Haven Police Department, located at 125 N. Lake Silver Dr., NW.

Secure Your Identity with Free Shredding

Citizens will have the opportunity to securely dispose of sensitive documents that could lead to fraud and identity theft if they fell into the wrong hands. Protecting personal paperwork is critical in preventing the potential theft of money and protecting your peace of mind.

The event offers unlimited, free shredding for all residents (no businesses, please).

Safely Dispose of Medications

In addition to document shredding, the police department will be providing a crucial prescription drug take-back service. Residents can bring in their unwanted, expired, or unused medications—including those for pets—for safe and proper disposal.

This service is vital, as unused prescription drugs in the home can be a major factor in substance abuse, leading to overdoses and potentially death among those struggling with addiction. There is also no limit on the amount of medication citizens can drop off.

The Winter Haven Police Department encourages all residents to take advantage of this free opportunity to declutter their homes safely and securely protect themselves from potential crime.
