WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A Winter Haven police officer is expected to recover after a two-vehicle traffic crash at the intersection of 1st Street North and Avenue D NW on Friday evening.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:42 p.m. According to preliminary information from the Winter Haven Police Department, a vehicle traveling on Avenue D NW entered First Street North, moving into the path of the officer, who was riding his personal motorcycle.
The officer sustained injuries and was transported via helicopter to Lakeland Regional Health. Police officials confirmed the officer “has suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.”
Investigators stated that impairment is not a factor in the crash, and the driver of the vehicle is cooperating with authorities.
The identity of the officer and the driver have not been released. Department representatives noted that this will be the last information provided for the evening.
