POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 73-year-old Winter Haven woman has died and a 24-year-old Lakeland woman suffered serious injuries in a crash that happened around 7:05 pm on Sunday.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a car driven by the Lakeland woman was traveling eastbound on Lucerne Park Road (SR-544), east of Wildflower Drive.
Troopers say the SUV driven by the Winter Haven woman, was traveling westbound on SR-544 and ass the vehicles approached each other, the Lakeland woman lost control of the sedan, entered the westbound lane, and collided nearly head-on with the SUV.
Troopers say the Winter Haven woman was transported to an area hospital but later died from injuries suffered in the crash.
