TAMPA, Fla. – Residents across the Tampa Bay area should keep both their sunglasses and heavy coats within easy reach this week. A weather pattern defined by dense morning fog and unseasonably warm afternoons is set to dominate the region for the next several days, driving temperatures into the low 80s before a sharp cold front arrives to spoil the party.
For the remainder of the workweek, the story remains largely the same: hazy starts followed by bright, warm finishes. Forecasters warn of areas of fog developing before 9 a.m. today through Thursday, which could impact morning commutes. Once the mist burns off, however, conditions will turn mostly sunny with calm winds.

Temperatures are expected to climb steadily as the week progresses. While today and Wednesday will see highs hovering near a pleasant 78 degrees, the mercury is predicted to rise further, hitting 81 on Thursday and peaking at a balmy 83 degrees by Friday. Nighttime lows will remain mild, generally staying in the upper 50s to low 60s.
The warmth will persist through the start of the weekend, with Saturday offering one last taste of the heat—sunny skies and a high near 81. But the reprieve won’t last.
A significant shift arrives Sunday, bringing a stark reminder that it is, in fact, winter.

Cloud cover will increase slightly as a new system pushes through, dropping daytime highs to 67 on Sunday—a nearly 15-degree plummet from just two days prior. The real shock, however, comes Sunday night. As the skies clear, temperatures are forecast to bottom out around 41 degrees, forcing a quick transition from beachwear back to winter layers.
Monday will see the sun return, but the heat will not, with highs struggling to reach 67 degrees.
Forecast Breakdown:
- Today & Wednesday: Foggy mornings giving way to sun; highs near 78.
- Thursday & Friday: The peak of the heat; mostly sunny with highs hitting 81 and 83.
- Saturday: Warm and sunny, high near 81.
- Sunday: The cooldown begins; high of 67, low plunging to 41 overnight.
