A Wisconsin-bound road trip ended in violence after a 21-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her mother at least 10 times inside a parked car outside a Georgia Chick-fil-A, authorities said.
The incident occurred during an argument between 21-year-old Shyanniah Ma’Ree Johnson and her 39-year-old mother, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
“The pair exited Interstate 75 and pulled into the Chick-fil-A parking lot, where the altercation escalated while still inside the vehicle,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement. “During the altercation, Johnson assaulted her mother, who sustained no less than 10 stab wounds.”
Following the attack, the injured mother ran inside the fast-food restaurant seeking help.
“Acworth Police officers were inside the restaurant and assisted until an ambulance arrived and transported her to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital,” the agency said. The mother has since been treated and released.
Johnson fled the scene in the vehicle with two young children inside. Investigators quickly used Flock license plate reader technology to track the car as it traveled north.
“All we had was a description of the vehicle,” Capt. Jay Baker explained. “We were able to use ALPR technology and Flock technology to get a tag and then reach out to our police partners in the north part of the state. Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office pulled them over and got her in custody.”
The two children were unharmed and placed in the custody of the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services.
Johnson, who suffered a leg injury during the altercation, was transported to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton for treatment. She faces charges of aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act.
Officials confirmed the investigation remains active, noting that “additional charges are possible as investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
