With Climate Change, “Hottest Year” Rhetoric From Biden Admin Ignores Recent Cooling Trend

Not long after New Year’s Day, the media began pumping out stories about global warming.

2021, we were told, was tied with 2018 for the “sixth-hottest” year on record.

“Science leaves no room for doubt: Climate change is the existential threat of our time,” NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said once the numbers were in.

“Eight of the top 10 warmest years on our planet occurred in the last decade, an indisputable fact that underscores the need for bold action to safeguard the future of our country – and all of humanity.”

NOAA, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, ran with the same headline.

But at the conservative website Climate Depot, they’re showing that NASA and NOAA’s numbers are ignoring an important reality:

Earth’s temperatures have been going down for the last five years.

Climate Deport’s point hinges on measurements of the “temperature anomaly.”

As NASA notes on its website, “A temperature anomaly is the difference from an average, or baseline, temperature. The baseline temperature is typically computed by averaging 30 or more years of temperature data.”

“In climate change studies, temperature anomalies are more important than absolute temperature.”

NASA, in a press release, says it uses 1951-1980 as its baseline.

But Climate Depot maintains that the numbers tell a different story in looking at a more recent 30-year timeline that includes the present – 1991 to 2020.

In one report, the website pointed out that the average anomaly temperature for 2021 was 0.134 degrees Celsius above the 30-year average for the period from 1991 to 2020. In that context, last year now drops to the eighth-warmest year over the 43 years that satellites have recorded such measurements.

Looking at NOAA data, a blogger at the climate change website Watts Up With That, or WUWT, noted recently that what the agency “failed to highlight was that the year-end 2021 global temperature anomaly measurement marked the continuing decline of its global temperature anomaly measurements that have now fallen for the last 6 years since peak year 2016.”

“These declining measurement outcomes make a complete mockery of recent climate alarmists scientifically unsupported politically contrived ‘climate emergency’ propaganda claims.”

The anomaly measurement – which NASA says is more important than the actual absolute temperature – has dropped 15 percent between 2016 and 2021.

Moreover, that gauge has dropped even has allegedly harmful carbon dioxide, or CO2, levels have gone up over the same period.

And it’s not just NOAA and NASA that are recording such a decline. WUUT pointed out overseas agencies are finding similar outcomes.

“Despite the usual climate alarmist grossly exaggerated hype by NOAA and NASA in their year 2021 annual reports trying to conceal the clearly obvious downward global temperature anomaly measurement trends while global atmospheric CO2 levels are continuing to climb the annual global temperature anomaly outcomes for year-end 2021 and the last six years do not support and in fact clearly dispute recent climate alarmist claims that we are in a ‘climate emergency’ driven by man-made CO2 emissions,” WUWT noted.

  1. “ClimateDepot is a project of the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT), a Washington, D.C. non-profit that promotes climate change denial.[3][4]
In 1985, the Committee For A Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT) was founded to promote a much-needed, positive alternative voice on issues of environment and development.

At the heart of CFACT, our goal is to enhance the fruitfulness of the earth and all of its inhabitants.”

By fruitfulness, I believe they mean cash in on.
