Major League Soccer (MLS), the top division of American soccer, is gaining popularity among supporters and enthusiasts of the sport, both domestically and abroad.

The good news for these fans is that the 2023 campaign will begin. The 2022 season came to a dramatic conclusion, and the 2022 World Cup tournament in Qatar was played after the season ended, which saw a new wave of interest in soccer throughout the country.

In the ensuing penalty shootout, LAFC prevailed 3-0.

As previously established, there will be 13 games to watch in the first few weeks of the MLS season, which begins on Saturday, February 25. What is to be expected from Orlando City in the 2023 season?

Orlando City had a fantastic year in 2022 since they won the US Open Cup, although league performances had more stagnation than progression.

Anything less than a top-four finish would be frustrating for Orlando because their roster has strengthened during the offseason. They have a potent offense that can score goals and a powerful defense. The new players may need some time to gel, but if they do, this team may even challenge for first place if they can maintain consistency.

If either of the clubs can perform well this season, then Miami could get a significant boost in its quest to host games for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, too.

Los Angeles FC

Los Angeles FC successfully defended the 2022 Supporters’ Shield by winning a massive 21 games out of a total of 34 matches. After that, the top team defeated the LA Galaxy and Austin FC in the playoffs before defeating the Philadelphia Union in the MLS Cup Final. Last season, Cristian Arango scored 16 goals and contributed four assists, while Carlos Vela scored 12 goals and provided nine assists. In the 2023 season, LAFC will be a challenge to stop because it has one of the most effective attacks in the league.

Philadelphia Union

Philadelphia Union was one of the top teams in Major League Soccer in 2022. After challenging LAFC all the way to the MLS Cup Final, the team had only five losses in 34 games during the regular season. The team led the league in scoring in 2022 and had the greatest defensive record of any team. With much quality on the field at both ends, Philadelphia will be confident in its ability to challenge the other teams in the league for the title when the 2023 campaign commences.

New York City FC

New York City was in the top five in the overnight standings last season after winning the MLS Cup in 2021. They ultimately lost the Eastern Conference Championship to Philadelphia nonetheless. Three young Brazilian attackers are the team’s main leaders for NYCFC. Last year, the South American players scored and assisted on a ton of goals, and they seem destined to have an even better season this year.

Teams like Los Angeles FC, Philadelphia Union, and New York City FC have the potential to do well this season, but any team can come out and surprise everyone on any given match day.
