INVERNESS, Fla. – A portion of the Withlacoochee State Trail that was closed for resurfacing has reopened. The section between mile marker 27 (south of the Fort Cooper Trailhead) and mile marker 28.58 (Eden Drive) is now accessible to the public as of Friday, October 4th, 2024.
This reopening comes after a closure that began on August 14th for a $1.3 million project to improve the trail surface in Citrus County.

Upcoming Closure:
While one section reopens, another will temporarily close. Starting Monday, October 7th, 2024, crews will begin work on Segment 2, from mile marker 28.59 to mile marker 28.95 (Eden Drive to just north of Mossy Oak Drive). This section is expected to reopen by late October.
The project is being completed in phases to minimize disruption, with only one segment closed at a time. Each closure is expected to last several weeks.
