HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – A head-on collision early this morning on US-41 in Brooksville has claimed the life of a 44-year-old man and left several others injured. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 1:21 AM near Sgt. Lea Mills Boulevard. A 32-year-old Groveland man was driving a Toyota Tacoma southbound in the northbound lanes of US-41 when he collided head-on with a Dodge Ram driven by a 17-year-old Brooksville girl.

The impact caused both vehicles to rotate before coming to a stop, one in the travel lane and the other in the median. A 44-year-old male passenger in the Dodge Ram suffered fatal injuries at the scene.
The drivers of both vehicles, along with three other passengers in the Dodge Ram, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and believes alcohol impairment may have played a role in the wrong-way driving. The investigation is ongoing to determine where the Toyota Tacoma entered the northbound lanes of US-41.
The names of those involved in the crash have not yet been released.
