A Florida man remains in custody this week following a violent confrontation sparked by the discovery that he and another man were dating the same woman. Jailen Tyree Lewis, 22, was arrested after a shooting in the Hypoluxo West subdivision in Palm Beach County, left a victim hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds.

The incident began in the early hours of Wednesday morning when a man arrived at his girlfriend’s home after failing to find her at work.

According to police records, the man—who had been in a relationship with the woman for six years—witnessed her sitting in a gray SUV with another man, later identified as Lewis. Though the woman attempted to wave him away, the victim entered the residence to wait for her.

The situation escalated when the SUV, which had briefly left the scene, returned to the home. As the victim walked toward his own car, he was confronted by Lewis. Both men were reportedly unaware of each other’s existence until that moment. A verbal dispute broke out as both realized they had been dating the same woman simultaneously; Lewis had reportedly been in a relationship with her for approximately one year.

Witness statements indicate that as the victim attempted to leave, telling Lewis he could “have her,” Lewis allegedly produced a handgun and fired.

The victim was struck twice in the lower legs, sustaining injuries to his ankle and tibia. He was treated by first responders on the scene before being transported to Delray Medical Center.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies located Lewis later that afternoon. He now faces several felony charges:

  • First-degree attempted murder
  • Aggravated battery
  • Discharging a weapon in public

Court records show that Lewis was denied bond, partly due to a pending trial scheduled for next month involving separate allegations of reckless driving and crashing into police vehicles in late 2024. The firearm used in Wednesday’s shooting has not yet been recovered by authorities.
