PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – Two women lost their lives, and two children were hospitalized following a severe head-on collision late Monday night in Pasco County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 10:40 p.m. on Blanton Road, just north of Platt Road.
Troopers say a 76-year-old woman from Zephyrhills was driving a Chrysler Pacifica eastbound when, for reasons still under investigation, she drifted across the center line. The Chrysler crossed into the westbound lane and collided nearly head-on with a Dodge Ram 2500 that was towing a utility trailer.
The impact proved fatal for both occupants of the Chrysler.

A 60-year-old female passenger from Newcomerstown, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 76-year-old driver was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
The pickup truck was driven by a 37-year-old Dade City man. Neither he nor his adult passenger, a 41-year-old Dade City woman, were injured in the wreck.
However, two children in the truck—a 7-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl—sustained injuries. They were transported to an area hospital and are expected to recover.
The investigation into why the Chrysler veered into oncoming traffic is ongoing.
