ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — A Wednesday evening ride turned tragic on Otis Allen Road when a 71-year-old motorcyclist lost control on a curve, leading to a fatal collision with an oncoming SUV.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers responded to the crash site west of Old Lakeland Highway around 7:09 p.m. on January 14.
According to investigators, the Zephyrhills man was riding his Suzuki motorcycle eastbound when he failed to negotiate a bend in the road. The motorcycle drifted across the center line and slammed into a westbound Lincoln SUV, resulting in a near head-on impact.

The motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Lincoln, a 47-year-old woman from Ridge Manor, survived the crash. Emergency responders transported her to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
FHP has not released the names of the drivers involved as the investigation continues.
