Shane Burns, a 33-year-old Michigan, man, has been convicted by a Macomb County jury on multiple charges stemming from a series of random violent attacks in May 2023, including the first-degree murder of a Clinton Township woman.

On Thursday, June 5, 2025, following a six-day trial before Circuit Court Judge Jennifer M. Faunce, Burns was found guilty of all nine charges. The jury’s swift verdict, returned after approximately 20 minutes of deliberations, ensures Burns faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

“Today’s verdict brings a measure of justice to the victims of this horrific attack,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, who have shown extraordinary strength. We hope this conviction offers them some solace. I want to thank the investigators, first responders, and our prosecution team for their tireless work. While nothing can undo the harm caused, we remain committed to pursuing justice for all victims of violent crime.”

The brutal attacks occurred on the morning of May 17, 2023. Burns first randomly stabbed and slit the throat of 60-year-old Cheryl Ann Parsley of Clinton Township in the parking lot of Belle Tire on Gratiot Avenue in Roseville, leading to her death.

Shortly thereafter, he approached 42-year-old Robert Baecke, Jr. at a bus stop near 12 Mile Road and Harper Avenue in St. Clair Shores, attacking and stabbing him multiple times.

A police lookout alert for Burns and his vehicle was issued, leading to his apprehension by Warren Police later that afternoon around Van Dyke and Stephens.

While in custody at the Roseville Police Department, Burns resisted officers, managing to grab a knife from an officer and slit his own wrist after being ordered to stop biting his wrists.

A subsequent search of Burns’ vehicle uncovered a shotgun, a 9mm firearm, and a significant quantity of ammunition.

Burns’ sentencing date is scheduled for Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Faunce.
