RUSKIN, Fla. – A ninth-grade student at Lennard High School was arrested yesterday for bringing a weapon onto school grounds, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
On Wednesday, school administrators received an anonymous tip indicating that 15-year-old Yesenia Rivera had a weapon while on campus.
Following the tip, school officials searched Rivera’s belongings. The search revealed a purple stun gun located inside the student’s purse.

The subsequent investigation led to Rivera being charged with one count of Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds. Authorities confirmed that Rivera did not make any threats towards other students or school administrators and has no prior arrest history.
“The bag a student brings to school should contain tools to learn, not tools to harm,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chronister stated. “Thank you to those who see something and say something. The anonymous tip helped administrators act quickly to prevent a potentially dangerous situation from happening.”
