It is not so surprising that one of the biggest bros of Big Tech is fully woke. Still, the extent of the wokeness, even from California, can induce some head-shaking.
With iOS 15.4, Apple’s latest iPhone update comes a slew of new features. They include facial recognition even with a mask and 37 new emojis.
iPhone users across the globe may have noticed several new options in their emoji keyboard, including a pregnant man and a gender-neutral pregnant person.
The “inclusive” offerings in that latter group appear to simply cancel women.
As columnist Nick Geddes of the conservative sports website Outkick.com noted in January, “Apple is going ALL IN in the name of being inclusive by featuring a new pregnant man and pregnant person emoji.”
“Apple and progressives will say this is progress, but we all know what it really is: theatre. Seems to be what’s in style in 2022,” Geddes added.
“Biological men cannot and will never, become pregnant. In a world full of lies and debatable things, this is an absolute fact. But Apple, in all its big tech and progressive glory, denies logic. They want you to believe this is real. That this can happen. That it’s normal. However, this is just misinformation at its finest.”
Jason Snively at AppleInsider.com noted that Apple’s standards for the update explain the company’s contribution to the war on women.
“It is often the case that gender is unknown or irrelevant, as in the usage ‘Is there a doctor on the plane?,’ or a gendered appearance may not be desired. Such cases are known as ‘gender-neutral,’ ‘gender-inclusive,’ ‘unspecified-gender,’ or many other terms. Other than the above list, human-form emoji should normally be depicted in a gender-neutral way unless gender appearance is explicitly specified,” Apple said in its guidelines.
Snively added that the “pregnant man” emoji emerged from Apple’s engineers seeking “to start making emoji more representational.” He said they wanted users to be able to create their own experience by piecing together emojis like “digital Lego,” including through “special-case” emojis.
Except for one thing: “So why isn’t a pregnant woman one of those special gender-specific cases?” Snively noted. He explained that grew from Apple’s attempt to also have a “non-binary” emoji to replace the pregnant woman one, and then serve as the base for people to experiment.
“The emoji combination was assembled with not an iota of identity politics,” Snively maintained. “The fact that it exists is no more of an ideologically-planted flag than stacking three Lego bricks together.”
But if it’s supposed to trend toward gender neutrality, why did Apple create a pregnant “man.”
The Daily Mail quoted the wordsmiths at Emojipedia, who maintain “pregnancy is possible for some transgender men and non-binary people.”
“Men can be pregnant. This applies to the real world (e.g., trans men) and to fictional universes (e.g., Arnold Schwarzenegger in [1994 film] ‘Junior.’ People of any gender can be pregnant too. Now there are emojis to represent this,” Emojipedia contends.
Some aren’t buying it, though.
One commenter to his column wrote, “There is nothing logical about a pregnant man. Nice attempt to write thousands of words to legitimize it, but a pregnant man emoji is as useful as a emoji of a fish riding a bicycle. Both are pure fantasy.”
Another added, “Just one more indicator that the end is nigh.”
