Florida Blue Alert Canceled After Man Shoots Deputy

A Florida Blue Alert was issued late Tuesday night for a man last seen in Taylor County in Florida’s Panhandle.

Around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, the alert was canceled. FDLE did not provide any additional details.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued the alert after officials said a Taylor County sheriff’s deputy was shot.

It’s not clear what led up to the shooting, but reports say it was a routine traffic stop.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement said it’s looking for Gregory Miedema, 33, last seen in Perry, Florida.

FDLE said he may be traveling in a gold 2000 Chrysler Sebring with FL tag number Y78TKU. The vehicle has a dark-colored convertible top.

A Blue Alert is issued when a law enforcement officer has been seriously hurt and the public’s help is sought.
