Rep. Byron Donalds said on Friday that Republicans would continue to dig into the Biden family’s financial records to learn why the current first family was so cozy with the Chinese Communist Party.
Donalds, a Naples Republican and member of the House Oversight Committee, appeared on Fox News to discuss reports that President Joe Biden’s son, brother, and former daughter-in-law received more than $1 million in payments from a firm linked to a Chinese energy company.
“They were getting the money for something,” Donalds told Fox News. “We don’t have that information yet, but we’re gonna go find out, because this investigation is not slowing down. It’s just speeding up.”

On Thursday, GOP Rep. James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, revealed that Biden family financial records indicated that Hunter Biden, James Biden, Hallie Biden, and an unknown “Biden” collected $1.3 million from a family associate. That money, paid in March 2017, just after Joe Biden’s term as vice president ended, appeared to have been drawn from a $3 million pot paid to the Bidens’ friend by State Energy HK Limited, a Chinese firm.
“The Oversight Committee is concerned about the national security implications resulting from President Biden’s family receiving millions of dollars from foreign nationals. We will continue to follow the money trail and facts to determine if President Biden is compromised by his family’s business schemes and if there is a national security threat,” Comer said in a statement.
On Fox News, Donalds said whether the payments were illegal remains to be seen. Further investigation is needed to determine that.

But he called the web of financial transfers used to mask the payments “highly unethical” and said it raises questions about why China is paying the Bidens at all, or what China may be getting now that Biden is president.
“What the Oversight Committee is saying,” he said, “is that if this is going on, it should be disclosed to the American people,” said Donalds.
“This is a major ethical issue with the person that is the leader of our country. … What is Joe Biden’s family doing getting wire transfers from Chinese companies? That’s an amazing question that the American people need answers to.”
