At approximately 5:30 p.m. on January 14, 2022, a suspect entered the SunTrust Bank located at 12902 N Dale Mabry Highway. The male suspect pointed a firearm at a bank teller and demanded cash. The teller provided an undisclosed amount of money, then the suspect fled on foot, westbound through the parking lot.

A Spring Hill man has pleaded guilty to bank robbery in Tampa and faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in federal prison.

TAMPA, Fla. – A Spring Hill man has pleaded guilty to bank robbery in Tampa and faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in federal prison.

According to court records, on January 14, 2022, John Charles Anderson, 39, entered the SunTrust Bank at 12902 North Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa armed with a Crossman BB pistol.

Anderson brandished the BB pistol while demanding money from the teller.

“The pistol appeared to be a functioning handgun, which caused fear in the teller’s mind, who complied with Anderson’s demand and gave him $941 in cash from the cash drawer,” said the DOJ in a release.

Anderson then fled the scene on foot and was later arrested.

“Thankfully, no one was injured during this incident,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister at the time of the robbery.

A sentencing date for Anderson has not yet been set.
