Florida Senator Ashley Moody has joined a group of Senate colleagues in introducing the “Stand with Israel Act,” legislation aimed at prohibiting U.S. funding for United Nations agencies that take action to penalize or restrict the participation of the State of Israel.

Introduced this week, the bill seeks to cut off American financial contributions to any UN body that “expel, downgrade, suspend or otherwise restrict the participation of the State of Israel.” The proposed legislation is reportedly modeled after existing prohibitions on funding to UN entities that elevate the status of the Palestinian Authority.

Senator Moody stated that the bill reflects America’s strong support for Israel. “America unequivocally stands with Israel, and it is illogical that we would fund an organization that continually allows and perpetuates antisemitic actions all while endorsing known terrorist sympathizers,” Senator Moody said in a statement. She added that the “commonsense legislation will send a message to the United Nations that acts that undermine Israel will not stand if it wants to continue receiving funding from the United States.”

Several other senators co-sponsoring the bill also voiced their support and criticism of the UN.

Senator Jim Risch emphasized the U.S.-Israel alliance, stating, “Israel is one of America’s greatest allies, and… we will no longer tolerate—much less fund—the blatant antisemitism at the United Nations.” He added that the bill signals that respecting “our Israeli friends” is necessary to receive U.S. funds.

Senator Tom Cotton echoed concerns about antisemitism within the UN, saying the organization “has allowed antisemitism to fester in its ranks while taking billions from American taxpayers.”

Other senators supporting the bill, including Mike Crapo, Dave McCormick, Joni Ernst, Katie Britt, Thom Tillis, Shelly Moore Capito, John Boozman, Marsha Blackburn, Pete Ricketts, Jim Justice, John Hoeven, John Cornyn, Rick Scott, and Deb Fischer, also issued statements criticizing perceived anti-Israel bias and antisemitism within the UN and affirming their commitment to standing with Israel. Some specifically referenced the October 7th attacks and the UN’s actions regarding the Palestinian Authority’s status as justifications for the bill.
