Florida Wins $1 Million Playing Florida Lottery’s ‘Spectacular’ Scratch-Off

A Florida man is $1 million richer after striking it big with one of the Florida Lottery’s flashiest games.

John Lopez, 33, claimed a $1 million prize from the $1,000,000 A YEAR FOR LIFE SPECTACULAR Scratch-Off game, lottery officials confirmed Friday. Lopez chose to receive his winnings as a one-time lump-sum payment of $640,000. The claim was made at Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee.

Lopez purchased the lucky $50 ticket at La Nueva Bella Market, located at 2800 N.W. 13th Avenue in Miami. The retailer will receive a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.

The $1,000,000 A YEAR FOR LIFE SPECTACULAR game is one of the Lottery’s most lucrative offerings, featuring two top prizes of $1 million per year for life, along with 234 other $1 million prizes. The game boasts more than $1.6 billion in total cash prizes and offers players overall odds of 1-in-4.50.

Scratch-off games continue to be a major driver of revenue for the Florida Lottery. In fiscal year 2023-2024, they accounted for approximately 74 percent of all ticket sales.

Since the launch of scratch-offs, players have won more than $65.5 billion in prizes, and 2,283 millionaires have been created. The program has also contributed more than $19.8 billion to Florida’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.
