CLEARWATER, Fla. – Despite a bout of morning showers and thunderstorms that created challenging swim conditions, the Clearwater community rallied together today, raising more than $4,500 for the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay.
The event in Clearwater Beach saw 70 swimmers take to the water out of the 88 who had registered.
The weather took a turn shortly before the event was set to begin, with a line of showers and thunderstorms sweeping across the coast.
This led to choppier waters and prompted some participants to modify their approach. While some determined swimmers completed the entire distance, others opted to walk a portion of the course before entering the water.
Safety remained a top priority throughout the event, with more than a dozen vigilant lifeguards strategically positioned both in the water and along the shore.
The funds raised will directly benefit the Crisis Center’s crucial programs, which offer support and resources to individuals and families facing a wide range of challenges, including mental health crises, domestic violence, and financial hardship.
