In a Sunday evening post on Truth Social, President Trump announced his administration will move to reopen and significantly expand Alcatraz, the infamous former federal penitentiary located on an island in San Francisco Bay.

The facility, which housed some of the nation’s most notorious criminals before its closure over six decades ago, will be revived to house what the President described as “vicious, violent, and repeat Criminal Offenders.”

The President’s statement asserted that the nation has been “plagued” by such individuals, characterizing them as “the dregs of society” who offer only “Misery and Suffering.” He evoked a sense of a more stringent past, stating, “When we were a more serious Nation, in times past, we did not hesitate to lock up the most dangerous criminals, and keep them far away from anyone they could harm. That’s the way it’s supposed to be.”

In his social media post, the President explicitly directed the Bureau of Prisons, alongside the Department of Justice, FBI, and Homeland Security, to undertake the reopening and substantial enlargement of Alcatraz.

He wrote that the administration would “no longer tolerate these Serial Offenders who spread filth, bloodshed, and mayhem on our streets.”

The President concluded his announcement by stating that “the reopening of ALCATRAZ will serve as a symbol of Law, Order, and JUSTICE,” reiterating his campaign slogan, “We will, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
