TAMPA, Fla. – Motorists who regularly travel on 15th Street under Interstate 4 in Tampa will need to plan an alternate route tonight. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced an overnight closure of 15th Street beneath the busy interstate.

The closure is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. tonight, Monday, May 5th, and will remain in effect until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, May 6th, weather permitting.

This temporary shutdown is essential for crews to safely conduct overhead bridge work as part of the ongoing Downtown Tampa Interchange (I-275/I-4) Safety and Operational Improvements project.

During the closure, a clearly marked route will detour northbound traffic on 15th Street.

Drivers will be directed to turn right onto 13th Avenue, then make a left onto 22nd Street, followed by another left onto 17th Avenue. From there, motorists can continue westbound to reconnect with 15th Street.

FDOT is urging drivers traveling in the area to exercise caution and remain alert for construction personnel and equipment. Electronic message boards and directional signage will be in place to guide motorists through the detour.
