Governor Glenn Youngkin and Attorney General Jason Miyares have announced an investigation into Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) following reports that the school division is investigating three male students who raised concerns about a biological female student in the boys’ locker room who was taking video.

The officials expressed outrage over the situation, particularly the alleged investigation of the students who complained.

According to reports cited by the Governor and Attorney General, a female student who identifies as male was present in the boys’ locker room and allegedly used a cell phone to record the reactions of male students upon her entry.

The subsequent investigation by LCPS reportedly targets the male students who voiced complaints.

Youngkin sharply criticized the school division’s reported response.

“It’s deeply concerning to read reports of yet another incident in Loudoun County schools where members of the opposite sex are violating the privacy of students in locker rooms,” Governor Youngkin said in a statement. “Even more alarming, the victims of this violation are the ones being investigated—this is beyond belief.”

Governor Youngkin stated he has asked Attorney General Miyares to “investigate this situation immediately so that every student’s privacy, dignity and safety are upheld.”

He emphasized that “Students who express legitimate concerns about sharing locker rooms with individuals of the opposite biological sex should not be subjected to harassment or discrimination claims.”

Referencing state policy, Governor Youngkin added, “Two years ago, my administration issued model policies that (1) unless federal law requires otherwise, require students to use the locker room corresponding to their sex, and (2) require parental notification if a student is permitted to use a locker room that differs from their biological sex and allow parents to opt their child out and use alternative facilities. Parental rights are not negotiable.”

“This is just the latest example of what happens when school boards disregard common sense.” Miyares asserted that “The safety, dignity, and privacy of every student in Virginia should be non-negotiable. This is about safety and privacy, not political correctness — and it’s time Loudoun County recognized that.”

The Attorney General’s office’s investigation will reportedly focus on the school division’s handling of the incident and the subsequent actions taken regarding the students involved.

The announcement marks the latest instance of state officials publicly scrutinizing Loudoun County Public Schools’ policies and actions.
