LITHIA, Fla. – One person is in critical condition following a two-vehicle crash involving hazardous materials that occurred Thursday morning near the intersection of Nichols Road and E Keysville Road in Lithia.

The incident, which happened around 8:32 AM, prompted a significant response from Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. Arriving crews encountered the collision, discovering that one of the involved vehicles was transporting various pool chemicals.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue confirmed that the hazardous materials included chlorine, muriatic acid, and cyanuric acid.

An adult male involved in the crash was transported to a local trauma center in critical condition.

Hillsborough County’s Hazardous Incidents Team is on scene and actively working to safely remove the spilled chemicals. Crews remain at the location to ensure all materials are adequately contained and removed.

As a result of the ongoing HAZMAT operation, Nichols Road just east of Keysville Road is currently closed. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.
