The Topps Company has long produced cards of subjects far removed from the fields of play. The New York-based trading card and collectibles firm, which Fanatics acquired in 2022, issued a set devoted to Elvis Presley in 1956, the Beverly Hillbillies in 1963, the Beatles a year later and Star Wars in 1977, to name a few.
The company began issuing a Topps Now brand in 2016. The idea was to immediately produce cards devoted to noteworthy events and make them available on the manufacturer’s website.
Sports card enthusiasts have had the opportunity to collect cards from Major League Baseball to Major League Soccer, Team USA Paralympics, and other leagues and entities.

Non-sport collectors have been able to get their hands on cards of Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders (wearing his mittens at Trump’s 2021 inauguration), and even last year’s solar eclipse.
Now, add Pope Leo XIV to the mix. Born Robert Francis Prevost, the native Chicagoan who completed his undergrad at Villanova, has a card available on the Topps Now platform for $8.99 through May 11.
There will also be parallel versions – i.e. gold, orange and black foil – with white smoke as a background and in print runs limited to 50 and less. As is typically the case, many cards will make their way into the secondary market on platforms such as eBay.
