Mississippi Man Pleads Guilty In Louisiana To Assaulting Co-Worker On Oil Platform

A Mississippi man has pleaded guilty to assaulting a fellow worker on an oil platform, Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced Friday.

James Magee 51, of Mississippi, entered a guilty plea on May 8, 2025, to one count of assaulting a co-worker.

According to court documents, Magee attacked a co-worker while the two men were on an oil platform. During the assault, Magee punched and kicked the victim before others intervened to separate the two men.

The victim sustained several injuries as a result of the attack, including orbital fractures around his eye, bruising to his left eye socket, bruising to his upper side torso, and a chipped tooth. He required helicopter transport from the platform to a hospital in Morgan City, Louisiana, for treatment.

Magee faces a maximum penalty of one year of imprisonment, up to one year of supervised release, a fine of up to $100,000, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $25.

The case was investigated by the US Coast Guard Investigative Services. Assistant United States Attorney Christine Calogero and Duane A. Evans of the General Crimes Unit are handling the prosecution.
