An Illinois woman was sentenced Friday to 72 months in federal prison for attempting to arrange a murder-for-hire using ‘interstate communications’ and financial services.
Autumn Jeanine Carianna Markley, 30, Coal Valley, received the sentence in a federal court connected to the Southern District of Iowa.
According to public court documents, while residing in Colorado in late 2023, Markley attempted to facilitate the plot by wiring money through Western Union.

The scheme involved Markley contacting a confidential source located in Iowa. During their communication, Markley made multiple statements indicating her willingness to pay for the murder of one of her relatives. She provided the confidential source with the intended target’s name and address, as well as a down payment for the proposed murder.
Markley was charged with and pleaded guilty to using interstate facilities in the commission of a murder-for-hire.
After completing her six-year prison term, Markley will be required to serve a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.
