WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A 30-year-old Winter Haven man with an active warrant for burglary, felony petit theft, and resisting without violence was taken into custody by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office on May 7th.

Deputies say Donnie Preston Smith III was wanted in connection with a burglary on May 2nd, where a bicycle was reported stolen.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a detective attempted to speak with Smith during the initial investigation into the May 2nd incident. However, Smith reportedly ignored the detective’s questions, repeatedly yelling, “What did I do?” while running away.

Five days later, on May 7th, deputies located Smith at his residence on Avenue P NW in Winter Haven. Deputies entered the home and found Smith attempting to conceal himself inside a closet.

Smith was arrested on the Polk County warrant. He now also faces an additional charge of resisting without violence stemming from his attempt to evade deputies by hiding in the closet.
