ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A 32-year-old St. Petersburg man was arrested Tuesday by detectives from the Crimes Against Children Unit (CAC) following an investigation into the online distribution of child pornography.
Jacob Buchholz Smith faces multiple felony charges related to the possession and transmission of the illicit material.
According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, the investigation started on January 22, 2025, after authorities received information indicating the online accessing and sharing of child pornography.

Through the use of various investigative techniques, detectives were able to identify Smith as the primary suspect. Investigators reported that the illegal images depicted children between the ages of five and thirteen years old.
On Tuesday, detectives arrested Smith, charging him with 10 counts of Possession of Child Pornography and 10 counts of Transmission of Child Pornography. Additionally, Smith was charged with one count of Resisting an Officer Without Violence (Obstruction) during the arrest.
Following his arrest, Jacob Buchholz Smith was transported to the Pinellas County Jail, where he will await further legal proceedings.
